Chapter One

A few months ago …

The humongous grizzly bear trudged through the blanket of snow on the ground, unbothered by neither the dangerously low temperatures nor the fast falling flakes piling up on its large block head and burly body. It continued to lumber along through the trees, going farther up the mountain.

Up here, John Krieger allowed his animal to take over their shared body. With the bear in charge, their senses remained sharp, their body could hold up against the elements, while the human side remained dull and suppressed.

It was the only place safe enough to allow the beast its freedom.

Chapter One

Darcey Wednesday sighed as she watched the happy couple dance to the slow, romantic song playing over the speakers. The ballroom of The Blackstone Grand Hotel was decorated beautifully, setting up a fairy-tale-like background for the bride and groom.

Really, she was ecstatic for Daniel and Sarah. If anyone deserved to live happily ever after, it was her sister. Ever since they met at that god-awful foster home, Sarah had taken care of her and their other adopted sibling, Adam. For over twelve years, Sarah had been like their mother, father, protector, and caregiver all in one. She could have abandoned them when she turned eighteen and was no longer the responsibility of the state, but she didn’t. Sarah worked her ass off to get them out of a terrible situation and provide for them all these years.

“C’mon, Rogers, don’t be such a pussy!”

Daniel Rogers breathed a sigh and took a sip of his beer. “I think you guys are doing just fine without me,” he shouted over the loud din of the music pumping through the speakers.

Anders Stevens rolled his eyes. “Seriously? You’re not going to play? Not even one lousy dollar for those hardworking girls up there?”

Chapter One

Gabriel Russel woke up that early spring morning with an urge. Urge to do what exactly … he wasn’t sure. All he knew was that he was terribly hungry, and there was only one thing that could satisfy him. 

His inner lion, usually the one to protest when he wanted to get up from bed, nosed at him in an attempt to hurry him up. Somehow it knew where they were headed, and seemed to want to get there sooner than later.
