Author Q&A: Kate Rudolph

Hi again! We’re back for another Author Q&A and for April, we have author Kate Rudolph!

Kate Rudolph is an paranormal and sci-fi romance writer who lives in Indiana. She loves writing about kick butt heroines and the steamy heroes who love them. She’s been devouring romance novels since she was too young to be reading them and had to hide her books so no one would take them away. She couldn’t imagine a better job in this world than writing romances and sharing them with her fellow readers.

Deadly Alchemy by Julie Morgan
Deadly Alchemy by Julie Morgan

Q: Tell us about your latest release, Deadly Alchemy.

Julie: Amelia Rimos has discovered the cure for vampirism. Soon, she meets the French vampire Michel, who seems to have her best interest at heart.

Q: What inspired you to write this book?

Julie: Maybe some of Underworld, but I’ve always had a love of vampires and all things that go bump in the night. It was time to create a new sort of war that spans through the entire book series.

Q: What is your favorite thing about this book?

Julie: I love the strength Amelia finds in herself when she’s pushed to the limits of her own life.

Q: Out of all the books you’ve written who is your favorite character?

Julie : I love all of my characters but I have to say probably a toss-up between Jared (The Concubine and Her Vampires) and Maggie Grace (book one in the Dead to the World Series, coming 2022).

Q: What do you like BEST about being an author?

Julie: I love creating my own world where the limit is as high as the sky rises.

Q: What do you like LEAST about being an author?

Julie: The editing process is my least favorite thing to do!

Q: Any tips for aspiring authors?

Julie:  Do your due diligence. Hire an actual editor, not someone who claims to edit because they like English. Get yourself a professional cover made. Do not use a free app to put together a cover. Also, the blurb of the story will sell your book. The three together (editing, cover, and blurb) are what will get your book noticed. Do not cut corners on this.

Q: What is your favorite activity for the Fall?

Julie: I’m in Florida, we don’t really have fall, but I enjoy the cooler temperatures. We don’t have leaf changes it’s just not as humid. We love it.

Thanks so much, Julie!

When I tell people that I’m a romance author, one of the first questions I get asked is, “Why did you want to write romance books?” Well, the answer to that is quite simple – it’s because first and foremost, I love reading romances!

Romance is one of the biggest genres in the book world, and right now there are so many indie authors out there. I never really thought I’d be able to write and publish my own books, but with the internet and technology, my dreams have come true. This truly is the best job I’ve ever had and I’m so thankful I’m able to do it.

I wanted to reach out to other authors and feature them on my blog. Not only to bring attention to their books but because I do love hearing about how other authors do their own craft. So, each month, I’m going to interview an author, C.D. Gorri, in this new feature on my blog called “Author Q&A.”

For October, we have the creator of the Grazi Kelly Universe and international bestselling and award-winning author of steamy paranormal romance and urban fantasy, author C.D. Gorri. Her latest book is The Dragon’s Treasure: A Falk Clan Tale, part of her Falk Clan Tales series.

Author Q&A with C.D. Gorri

Q: Tell us about your latest release.

The Dragon's Treasure by C.D. GorriC.D: This is actually a surprise addition to my Falk Clan Tales. Originally, the stories surround the 4 Dragon Shifter brothers who are freed from 500 years of servitude and make their home on the Jersey Shore where they find their true mates. I thought I was finished, but it turns out, there’s another brother. Aware that his big brothers do not know he exists, Castor seeks out the others after Castle Blackthorne is destroyed. He has a lot to learn about himself and life in the modern world. I can’t wait for my readers to get their hands on his tale!

Q: Where is the story set? Is it a real-life place or something you made up? What inspired you to use this setting?

C.D: All of my books either take place in or have something to do with my home state of New Jersey. I have created some pretty cool fictional towns in the Garden State for my supernatural heroes and heroines and their mates to roam and play. 😉

Q: What inspired you to write this book?

C.D: Honestly, I thought the series was done, but there was this one thing that bugged me. The father and his second love had to have a secret, something else worth dying for. What else could it be besides a secret baby brother to the four Falk Dragons?! LOL

Q: What is your favorite thing about this book?

C.D: I love revisiting past characters and this book allows me to check in on them and to see how the brothers have progressed with their mates and living in the modern world.

Q: Out of all the books you’ve written who is your favorite character?

C.D: My first ever book, Wolf Moon, was written about teenage Werewolf Grazi Kelly. She is and always will be special to me.

Q: Why did you choose to write about a werewolf for your first book?

Actually, a lot of thought went into wanting to write a Werewolf for my first book. I wanted my heroine to be someone my daughters could relate to, keep in mind this first story is a CLEAN (snort) Urban Fantasy. I wanted a character who had to really take care of herself with proper diet and exercise. I love all types of supernaturals, but once I started thinking this character needed to be healthy, to have a positive body image and a good relationship with food, the idea of a Werewolf just took off. Werewolves in my Grazi Kelly Universe need plenty of exercise, high protein diets, and prefer organic fruits and veggies because of their highly sensitive senses of taste and smell. I carried this over to my Paranormal Romance and it is the same for all my Shifters and Vampires, with such heightened capabilities I thought it necessary to include eating preferences in my books.

Q: What do you like BEST about being an author?

C.D: I get to create whole worlds. When I don’t like something, I can change it. It’s a bit awesome really.

Q: What do you like LEAST about being an author?

C.D: Marketing. It’s like the used car salesperson side of being an author, but hey, we need to eat too. 😉

Q: Any tips for aspiring authors?

C.D: Just keep writing. Write. Write. Write. Even when it sucks. Writing is a craft, you only get better if you do it.

Q: What is your favorite activity for the Fall?

C.D: Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons. I love Halloween, pumpkin picking, walks in the park, and getting ready for the rest of the holidays.

What are the different kinds of romance novels?

So in this first post in my “So You Want to be a Romance Author” series, I want to discuss the different types of romance novels.

Maybe you’ve already started or finished writing your romance book or perhaps you’re looking for a place to begin. Most likely, you’re wondering how to categorize your novel or what to write.

When I first started writing, I had a defined idea of what I wanted – that’s because I love reading romance novels too! I knew my stories would have werewolves in them, so I immediately knew I would be writing a paranormal romance.

But, if you’re not sure where to start, let’s take a look at the different kinds of romance books by genre
